You can empower a young woman for life through education. You can be a part of something special and enable young women to go to university and break the cycle of poverty.
With a monthly gift you can make this happen and change the lives of young women in rural Cambodia today.
For a child with no education, there is little opportunity to pull themselves out of poverty. They are extremely vulnerable and limited choices can expose them to gender based violence, health risks and abuse. Girls are most at risk, as when there is a choice, boys will be encouraged to stay in school. For this reason, our work focuses on young women.
Since 2005, Mekhala House has offered a safe, nurturing boarding home for up to forty at-risk girls from Prey Veng province. By providing access to food, healthcare, formal education, life skills training and resources for study, these girls are able to flourish and are empowered to break the cycle of poverty.
Cambodian Kids Can commits to supporting these girls from the time they come into the boarding home, until they complete their tertiary education, removing barriers and eliminating the cost so they can focus on their learning and contribute to a community that values education.
Cambodian Kids Can is uniquely positioned to implement this program as we have worked in the Prey Veng region for over ten years. This has enabled us to establish strong and trusted relationships with the community.
