Embrace Education Inc is a not for profit, university student-run organisation based in Melbourne, Victoria. Our mission is to reduce educational inequality by providing free tutoring for disadvantaged high school students. We recruit university student volunteers to assist at homework clubs, one-on-one tutoring and in-school tutoring for over 200 disadvantaged children each year, who are mostly from refugee or migrant backgrounds. Our students come from socially and economically disadvantaged backgrounds and many are the first in their family to contemplate completing high school and pursuing a tertiary education. It is our vision to see all of our school students reach university, and therefore we are appealing to you to assist us to inspire them to reach that goal. However, for many of our students, the education system can be very overwhelming, especially given that English is usually not their first language and having recently migrated here, feelings of displacement and a loss of purpose occur. Therefore, we believe they would greatly benefit from a source of inspiration to show them the light at the end of the tunnel in pursuing a tertiary education and that their efforts are worthwhile.
The funds raised will be used to organise an inspirational lecture for our individually-tutored students to attend to encourage them to continue pursuing their high school education. We would also like to provide them with a new set of pencils and pens to encourage them to engage more with their studies and to act as a reminder and souvenir of the inspirational lecture.
