All Saints Hall Needs Your Love
Located at the heart of Melbourne’s oldest suburb, this Fitzroy institution lives on a vital meeting place for many different community and student groups. While well cared for during its 170 years, the Hall is now in urgent need of repairs to ready it for the next 170 years.
The Hall is on the Victorian Heritage Register (H2172) and is of architectural and historical significance as a rare example of a prefabricated iron building made in Liverpool and brought to Victoria during the gold rush. Starting life as a horsehair factory sometime before 1855, All Saints Hall has variously served as a Rechabite temperance hall, a Wesleyan Sunday School, a Methodist Jubilee Hall, a Catholic Parish Hall, and a place of worship for Coptic Catholics.
Today, the Hall is the home to the award winning Harmony In Strings music program of the neighbouring Sacred Heart Primary School and to the school’s Breakfast Club. Other users include local Cubs and Scouts clubs, and the Australian South Sudanese Community Elders’ Council Inc.
Having cared for the people of Fitzroy for 170 years, All Saints Hall needs some love in return.
