Alpine Search and Rescue Victoria (alpineSAR) is an incorporated, wholly volunteer, not-for-profit organisation made up of experienced back-country skiers, mountaineers and bushwalkers skilled in search and rescue, who are called out to look for lost persons in alpine and bush areas as members of Bush Search and Rescue Victoria (BSAR), by Victoria Police.
alpineSAR is dedicated to ensuring safety of our communities through active participation as volunteers to search and rescue anywhere in the state of Victoria.
On average, our members devote 20 searcher-days per annum looking for lost persons, and 150 person-training days. Additionally, to help maintain their skills and as a community support initiative, members volunteer to provide first-response search and rescue, first aid, and remote radio communications for the Alpine Challenge and Mt Buller Skyrun mountain running events each year, which involve up to 300 runners.
We are funded by member contributions, donations, and sometimes specific-purpose grants.
Searches often happen in bad weather and difficult terrain and may extend for several days, sometimes requiring camping out in remote terrain. We work in small teams, with other BSAR and emergency services personnel. To ensure the safety of our members and maximise the effectiveness of their search efforts, proper equipment and training is necessary. alpineSAR seeks to provide essential equipment for members and provide regular training, some of which involves formal courses such as Wilderness First Aid. This is funded by members' own contributions and where possible subsidised by donations.
Your donation will assist us in our mission to look for lost persons in the bush.
