Araluen is committed to offering high-quality, personalised services that contribute to the wellbeing and safety of people with a disability, their families, and carers. We support people in their homes, in the community and at our sites located throughout northeast Melbourne so they can live a connected life of choice, opportunity and fulfillment.
About Us - a history of impact built on determination to achieve better lives
Araluen begun in the 1960s when a group of frustrated parents started a playgroup for their children in a suburban garage because there were just no better social or early education options for people with intellectual disability at the time. By forming their own group, these families created a welcoming place where their children could belong, be safe and learn outside their homes.
These parents went on to start the service that has grown to become Araluen as we’re known today. Ever since, our progress has been built on a sense of imagination, care and determination inspired by our founders. As we fast approach our fiftieth anniversary, the need to lead and embrace change for the exciting opportunities it can bring remains as crucial as ever.
How we can make an impact together
We recognise the ever-evolving needs and aspirations of the people we support and remain dedicated to continually improving our services and working towards greater equality and inclusion. Our goal is to ensure Araluen keeps making a positive impact by offering modern, sustainable, fit-for-purpose services. Your generosity will help Araluen to thrive. Thank you!
