The Bungalook Creek Wildlife Shelter is a registered wildlife shelter with the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning and has been in operation since January 2008. Thousands of animals have come through our shelter since opening.
As a volunteer wildlife shelter, we receive no funding to provide the 24hour, 7 day a week service for orphaned and injured wildlife. Our shelter provides nursing care and support with the goal of restoring wildlife to their natural condition and habitat, and is involved in fostering community awareness and appreciation of the intrinsic value of native wildlife and its habitat.
The Bungalook Creek Wildlife Shelter not only rescues and rehabilitates wildlife which have had misadventure due to human interference but has also been involved in search and rescue operations during fires, in particular the Black Saturday 2009 fires. Our shelter also provided support during bushfires and heat stress incidents at the Yarra Bend Grey Headed Flying Fox Colony.
