About this cause

Camp Quality is Australia’s most trusted children’s charity. Our purpose is to create the best quality of life for every child in Australia who is living with cancer.

Currently we’re only able to reach 1 in 3 children living with cancer across the nation. With your support, we can change this.

We provide essential services to these kids (aged 0-13) and their families through every stage of their cancer journey. We also support children who have a parent or sibling with cancer.

We believe in the power of positive psychology to build optimism and resilience. We believe that laughter is the best medicine.

To support our registered families we’ve identified key areas where the most support is needed. We offer four program streams (all at no charge) that support the specific needs of families, and help to create optimism and resilience along their cancer journey:

At home

For a family living with cancer, home quickly becomes one of the few places that are safe. Treatments leave patients with weak immune systems, making sterility and routine necessities. Children, by their nature, crave adventure and stimulation. Being kept primarily in one place for months, even years, at a time can have severely detrimental impacts.

That's why we offer:

  • Holiday Retreats – to provide an essential getaway for families to spend quality time together in a peaceful and relaxing setting.

  • Family Experiences – are generously donated by community partners, and give families memories to cherish not centred on sickness.

At hospital

Hospitals turn into surrogate homes for any child diagnosed with cancer. Their lengthy stays in wards, routinely undergoing painful treatments and coping with their side effects creates familiarity, but not comfort. That’s where we come in.

Camp Quality offers:

  • Child Life Therapists – they work in hospitals and teach children strategies that help them manage their illness, inside and outside hospital.

  • In-Hospital Support – our Family and Hospital Support Teams work to make hospital life easier for children and families living with cancer.

  • Kids’ Guide to Cancer – a fun and free app that teaches children about cancer in age-appropriate terms.

At school

Going to school while living with cancer can be a daunting prospect. Stigma, misinformation and ignorance can lead to children picking on their peers at a time when they need the most support. We developed our Primary School Education Program with the express purpose of stopping that from happening:

  • Featuring our energetic and memorable puppets, these shows work to educate kids about what cancer is and what theire peers are experiencing.

  • The shows are tailored to different age groups to ensure all children that see the show come out with a strong and appropriate understanding of cancer.

  • Resources are provided to teachers so that after the show, they are equipped to handle the various questions children may have.

Out in the community

The cancer journey often doesn’t allow for time to have fun, something essential in every child’s development. So much effort is made to make sure treatment plans are met, that organising positive and affirming experiences gets forgotten. Therefore we provide experiences for the whole family:

  • Kids’ Camps – made just for kids, these camps offer a setting that promotes friendship, positivity, resilience building, optimism, and fun. These are designed for children between 0 and 13.

  • Family Camps – made for the whole family, these weekends away afford families the opportunity to create memories separate from their diagnosis. The whole family gets to unwind, reconnect, laugh, and recharge.

  • Family Fun Days – these day events give families living with cancer a chance to enjoy a day of entertainment, new experiences and fun challenges together.

How will the funds raised be used?
