Cardinia Environment Coalition is a volunteer run organisation based in Cardinia Shire. Our mission is to lead significant positive environmental change through community based awareness and action.
The Cardinia Shire is over 1200 square kilometres, from Emerald in the north down to Lang Lang in the south. There is an incredible range of different plants and animals in the area, over 1700 species!
Since European settlement, the area has been significantly altered from its natural state. As a result, 94 native plants and 63 native animals in the area are rare or threatened.
We are passionate about protecting and enhancing the local environment and giving the community the skills and knowledge they need to do the same. We manage 7 nature reserves in Cardinia Shire including Beaconsfield Nature Conservation Reserve, Guys Hill Reserve and Bandicoot Corner. We protect these areas from ongoing weed invasion and also revegetate them. By removing environmental weeds, we not only protect the native plant communities in these reserves, but also make sure the reserves still make great homes for our native animals.
