Your donation to "Protect our Forests and Wildlife" will help the Conservation Council protect Western Australia's unique forests and wildlife. The campaign is growing fast and, with lots of exciting projects and events on the go, now is the time for ordinary Australians to stand up for our natural assets.
The forest and wildlife campaign is led by the community and relies on your donations to function effectively particularly in raising awareness and providing opportunities to take preventive action. We need to increase our visibility and make sure our voices are being heard loud and clear.
As you know, vast areas of magnificent Karri and Jarrah forests are still being clear-felled and logged for low-value products like railway sleepers, woodchips and firewood. More importantly, they destroy precious wildlife such as Numbats and Black Cockatoos among others. Many sawmills have closed in recent years because this anachronistic industry is no longer financially viable. Remaining native logging and milling operations run at a loss, kept afloat only by government-backed guarantees and millions of dollars in taxpayers subsidies.
Right now the WA Government is in the process of drafting a new Forest Management Plan that will govern how our forests are used for the next ten years without reflection upon preservation of our pristine flora and fauna. With an election on the horizon and the forestry industry up against the ropes, 2012 could be the year that we end native logging in WA for good. With enough support we can show all sides of politics that the way to win votes is to cut support for the failed logging industry and protect our forests for future generations.
Your donations can make this dream a reality. Together we can close the book on over a century of struggle against native logging and protecting our endangered wildlife.
Thank you very much for your support - it makes all the difference!
