Our goal is to provide an ongoing, much needed, mobile shower service to the homeless in Melbourne’s south east.
This service aims to help improve the following:
Equally as important as the shower are our fold up chairs. These are set up at each shift and allow our homeless friends to just sit down and have a chat with us. Sometimes we are the only people they have spoken with for several days.
We strongly believe in treating everybody respectfully and engaging in open and sociable conversation. These conversations are non-judgemental and address the need for social contact, an immensely important need for this group.
Most people have the luxury of starting their day with a nice warm shower, and in the evening, after a long hard day, we again have the opportunity to have a warm relaxing shower and wash our day away. This ritual can make us feel better immediately, and helps with our frame of mind.
Unfortunately for the 2500+ homeless, this is a luxury that they do not have. After a rough night’s sleep in the cold, the rain, the heat and humidity, they start their day exactly where they left off the night before and do not get to finish it by washing away their day.
