Connecting older LGBTI people across country Victoria.
This June your donation will help us provide access to free social events for older LGBTI people across Victoria.
So get on board the Out & About bus to celebrate Pride Month and EOFY.
Out and About is a peer driven community visiting service for older LGBTI people across Victoria. We also aim to provide opportunities for social connection whenever and wherever we can.
Your tax-deductible donation will provide opportunities for celebration and social connection to older LGBTIQA+ people isolated by illhealth, accessibility challenges or location.
WHY older LGBTI people?
Older LGBTI people tell us they want safe and age-affirming spaces through which to connect with others. Sadly, these are few and far between. And all too often events are not designed to cater for the needs and interests of older LGBTI people.
Added to which, long and repeated Victorian lockdowns during COVID-19 have increased people’s sense of isolation and anxiety. 90% of people surveyed in our COVID Impact Survey said the increased isolation of the past 12 months had affected their physical and/or mental health.
How can your donation help?
Every donation made through this GiveNow Celebrating Pride in all Ages campaign will go towards providing access to free events for celebration and social connection for older LGBTI people across Victoria, including in rural/regional communities.
We're aiming to raise $10,000. If we reach that goal, we'll be able to deliver up to 3 events for up to 60 people each across 2022, working with local partners to build life-affirming social connections and experiences. We'll also take an accessible bus of older LGBTI people and their social supports to Pride March - some participant feedback from this year's March: “this has been a dream of mine, I can’t believe I’m marching, its been my dream day”.
You can play a part in connecting up socially isolated older LGBTI people, their carers and friends. And promoting visibility in local communities where older members of our community are often not recognised or valued. That's priceless!
