This shopfront (13/45 Peachey Rd) in Davoren Park was always meant for young people.
Eleven years ago, we ran our first youth drop in here. Open doors, a feed, a game of pool, real conversation. No program. No criteria. Just people who believed young people needed somewhere safe to belong.
Since then, Hopestreet has grown alongside the needs of young people in Playford. In the past 12 months alone, our after hours youth drop in has reached 663 unique young people across 8,333+ engagements.
Many of the young people we support are disconnected from school, employment, healthy community, and safe support systems.
80% have been suspended or excluded from school.
56% have had contact with police.
44% have involvement with youth justice.
And yet:
92% say they feel safe at Hopestreet.
100% say they have a positive role model here.
That gap is what we exist to close.
HOPESTREET SOCIAL IS THE NEXT STEP
Earlier this year, we reopened the Davoren Park shopfront as Hopestreet Social which is a youth skills cafe, retail space, mentoring hub, and social enterprise all in one.
The space was redesigned alongside young people themselves.
At the back is a space that feels like a home with a kitchen, lounge, and dining area where young people can learn to cook, make coffees, build creative skills, and simply be together safely. The front operates as a café and retail space for customers, while also creating opportunities for mentoring, connection, and real-world experience.
Since opening less than three months ago, 55 young people have already completed work experience with us.
At Hopestreet Social, young people are supported by youth workers while learning practical skills in a real cafe and retail environment.
We help young people build:
Many of our young people are not 'job ready' when they first walk through the door. Some experience severe anxiety, school refusal, trauma, or isolation.
For some young people, this looks like learning to make their first coffee. For others, it’s building the confidence to speak to customers, arrive consistently, or believe they are capable of employment for the first time.
Our youth workers walk alongside young people wherever they’re at, helping build confidence and skills at a pace that works for them.
That flexibility is why this works but it’s also why we need funding support.
WE NEED YOUR HELP
From July this year, we need funding to continue operating Hopestreet Social and providing the youth workers, mentoring, coordination, and safe spaces these young people rely on.
$50,000 is our minimum goal. The more we raise, the more young people we can support.
Every dollar directly supports:
We are also looking for local businesses willing to partner with us through employment pathways, mentoring, sponsorship, or practical support.
We can’t force change.
But we can create environments where young people feel safe enough, supported enough, and valued enough for change to become possible.
We love these kids. Help us keep showing up for them.
All donations over $2 are tax-deductible.
Hopestreet operates under CareWorks Inc.
