Hi!
My name is Gael Chizungu, a graduate of Tenison Woods College’s Class of 2023. Last year, I had the incredible opportunity to participate in the Timor Immersion, a two-week experience where we visited our sister school and immersed ourselves in a new culture. This eye-opening journey ignited my passion for the humanitarian field and exposed me to the harsh realities faced by those whose basic human rights and needs are not met.
Recently, I returned from a six-month volunteering experience at a Don Bosco school in Cambodia. This experience has been the most rewarding of my life. Cambodia is still reeling from the effects of the Khmer Rouge genocide, which claimed the lives of 1-3 million Khmer people just 45 years ago. This tragedy has significantly impacted the country’s development.
Despite these challenges, remarkable Salesians are working tirelessly to make a difference. Yet, they cannot sustain this vital work without our support.
At the Don Bosco school, students receive a free lunch daily—often their only meal of the day. This crucial support relies on donations like yours. With 40% of Cambodian children suffering from chronic malnutrition, leading to stunted growth and developmental issues (The Borgen Project,2022), your contributions are essential to continue this fight against hunger and support the bright futures of these young minds.
Your generosity can help ensure that these students not only receive the nourishment they need but also the opportunity to thrive and succeed. Together, we can make a lasting impact and help the beautiful children of Cambodia reach their full potential.
Thank you for your compassion and support.
