Project - Land Purchase - Kikula B Community Based Organsation
The Story of Kikula B Community
Kikula in the Democratic Republic of Congo has a population of over 200,000 people and is one of the largest slum townships on the outskirts of the bustling city of Likasi. Civil conflict in 1993 left thousands of orphaned children along with many more orphaned and vulnerable children and families coming to the area as they fled war and conflict in other areas of the Congo now living in the poorest of poor communities like Kikula. Food is scarce and many are unable to feed their families due to high levels of unemployment and with the challenges of farming to provide for their families with mines having polluted the land and streams.
Hands at Work, together with local volunteer careworkers, are committed to ensuring that 120 orphaned and most vulnerable children in this Community Based Organsiation of Kikula B are holistically cared for and the children receive a hot nutritious meal daily and are supported with their education and basic health care.
Land Purchase
In 2022, the Kikula B Community Based Organisation was able to secure its own smaller plot of land and have constructed toilets and a basic structure for cooking and for the children to sit under. With the ever growing need in this area, the land at the CBO is too small and in recent months an opportunity arose to purchase the land adjoining the CBO which will provide the necessary space to accommodate a Children's shelter, put in a borehole and allow room for the children to have a safe place to play.
We are trusting to raise $10,811 to cover the cost of the purchase of the land and the registration costs.
Thankyou for considering Giving toward the land purchase at Kikula B, DRC.
