Desperate for Love Dog Pound Rescue (DFL) is completely volunteer run, charity organisation based in the Perth Metro area. DFL is committed to saving as many dogs from pounds and other negative situations as possible. We take in dogs of all sizes, ages and breeds.
All of our dogs are placed in foster homes in the metro area until they are adopted. We have hundreds of foster carers all over Perth who care for the dogs until they are ready to move to their forever homes.
The rescue pays for all vet work along with assistance with behaviour training if required for the foster dogs. All dogs are sterilised, vaccinated and microchipped before being adopted. With the dogs living in private homes, we are able to find out more about them to determine the best sort of home for each dog. This increases the likelihood of the adoption being successful.
Along with the standard vet work that all dogs have prior to being adopted, there is often other procedures required (i.e. cruciate surgery, eye operations, skin conditions etc.) These procedures and issues are more expensive than standard procedures but are done to ensure that the dogs will have the possible lives going forward.
Along with finding new homes for dogs, we also have a unique ‘forever foster’ program for dogs who come in to rescue too infirm or elderly to be rehomed. They live with a foster carer and remain in the rescue until it is their time. They will only know love & kindness and DFL covers all vet work needed to make them as comfortable as possible.
Every year we find permanent homes for between 250 and 300 dogs. At any given time have over 100 dogs in foster care within our rescue network and we currently have an additional 49 forever fosters.
