Diversity ACT Community Services is the only LGBTIQ+ support service in South Canberra.  We receive no ongoing funding, and for years have funded our organisation through community events such as sausage sizzles.  Many of our volunteers are retired people and/or people with disabilities, who are high risk for COVID.  In this new COVID normal world, we have less volunteers available to help us with our community events and general fundraising.  This has had a flow on impact on the amount of funds we have been able to raise.

Even though our income has reduced, our bills are continuing.  We need to pay for electricity, telephone, Internet, and insurance.  Those bills will add up to about $5000 in the next six months.  

Our clients' needs increased during the COVID period.  Who knew that vulnerable and isolated people would get more vulnerable when they can't leave their homes, and also are having trouble paying their rent?  (Spoiler alert - we did!)  We need to be able to pay our insurance, to make sure that our volunteers are protected while they do this important community work in supporting our clients.
