Dolphin Research Australia

Dolphin Research Australia General Appeal

Did you know that many dolphin populations don't migrate? They often live in close proximity to the coast - particularly near estuaries and river entrances. Coastal dolphins are some of the most vulnerable marine species in the world. Despite their popularity, there is very little known about our wild dolphin populations.

Dolphins and their environment are under ever-increasing pressure from threats created by many human activities. Dolphins and their ocean homes are facing a very uncertain future.

We are here to help!

Dolphin Research Australia is a charitable organisation whose mission is to increase the understanding of the ecology of dolphins, whales, their needs for survival and to improve their conservation and protection of their habitats.

How do we help?

  • undertaking long-term research projects to understand the status and health of coastal dolphin populations.
  • delivering innovative and engaging marine education programs and information to school groups and the general public to empower environmental stewardship in our community. This also includes creating opportunities for the public to join on-ground actions such as beach clean-up events.
  • provide a strong voice and advocate for improved protection of dolphins, whales and the oceans by providing independent expert advice, working and advising government bodies and other agencies.
  • assist dolphins and whales that are stranded, injured and distressed.

How do we do it?

With the help of amazing supporters like you and our incredible volunteers!!

We rely on the generous donations from many people who believe in helping to create a better future for our marine life and oceans. With one casual staff member and our volunteer team, our grass roots organisation goes from strength to strength but we can't do it without you!

You Can Help Too!

We urgently need your support!

How will the funds be used?

  • Continuation of our long-term flagship research and monitoring projects including our Moreton and Byron Bay Dolphin Research Project and our Healthy Waterways-Health Dolphins initiative. Keep our little boat afloat!
  • Creating opportunities for citizen scientists and the public to help in our research and monitoring programs.
  • Deliver education programs to schools and beyond through the development of interactive education materials that can be accessed by all.
  • Purchase of much needed equipment including computer software, GPS units and rescue equipment.
  • Enable us to continue to provide a strong advocacy voice to ensure the protection of coastal dolphins and their fragile habitats - including public campaigns.

Change cannot be made without the helping hands of many! Will you be part of the change to help protect and conserve our precious marine life and oceans?
