We help people who want to protect the environment through law. Our core functions are:
Each year the Environmental Defenders Office (EDO) provides free legal advice thousands of individuals and community groups across the coutry. We also run free legal workshops for local communities. EDO has run a number of landmark legal cases in the courts and undertakes policy and law reform work at both the State and Federal level.
EDO also operates an Aboriginal Engagement Program, a Scientific Advisory Service, an Outreach Program and an International Program providing assistance to legal groups in the south Pacific.

As a non-government and not-for-profit legal centre, our services are provided without fear or favour. Anyone can contact us to get free initial legal advice about an environmental problem, with many of our services targeted at rural and regional communities.
