OPEN on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, between 10.00 am - 2.00 pm, Elm St Mission offers various activities to support wellbeing and connection.
Elm St Mission provides a welcoming space for those with mental health and wellbeing issues and/or who are socially isolated. We have a range of activities that promote connection, engagement, friendship, and a community setting to encourage each person’s dignity and wellbeing. To help people feel connected to each other, a team of volunteers provide lunch, a range of activities and an open community space where visitors can simply relax, have a cuppa or play games. All activities are free and ESM offers support and assistance to anyone who comes. This may be in the form of direct assistance and/or by making referrals to other services who can provide support. ESM works closely with the mental health and community service providers in the area.
The core principle of Elm St Mission arrives from a theology of mission which sees the key mission of the church as ‘being with’, not ‘doing for’. We may or may not be able to solve problems, or ‘fix them’ as such, but what we can do, is offer a safe and loving space where people can gather, feel they belong, where they are valued, respected, supported and encouraged. This then becomes our mission - to be ‘with’. A core goal is community.
Elm St Mission needs both volunteers and financial support from the broader community to enable the work to function effectively. If this is something that might interest you, please contact us by email.
