A devastating conflict is sadly unfolding in Ethiopia. On 4 November, 2020, a military conflict erupted between the forces of the federal government of Ethiopia and the regional government of Tigray, in the country’s north.
The conflict is intensifying at an alarming speed and having a regional impact. Amnesty International has confirmed that likely hundreds of people have been violently killed. More than 30,000 refugees have fled into Sudan, a fragile state ill-equipped to cope with a sudden influx of people. Rockets have been fired into Eritera's capital of Asmara.
This is on the backdrop of civil unrest and violent protests involving the Oromia people earlier in the year; locust plagues that have devastated farms; the COVID-19 pandemic and the resulting economic fallout, which includes declining incomes and rising inflation.
Food prices are at an all time high. In Lalibela, families cannot afford food and facing starvation. Displaced people are also arriving in Lalibela and require urgent assistance.
We are seeking donations to help support the most destitute people in Lalibela through emergency food aid. The team at Create Impact (in Australia) will match all donations (up to a total of $10,000).
Help support this cause by creating your own 'CrowdRaiser' fundraising page.
