Environmental Film Festival Australia

Environmental Film Festival Australia

Environmental Film Festival Australia (EFFA) is a volunteer community group, based in Naarm (Melbourne), that prioritises climate and environments through film, providing platforms for artists to showcase their work and spaces for people to connect and exchange ideas and solutions.

Our program navigates the relationship between humans and their environments and interrogates the way people think about the natural world. We feature films from the world’s most talented and socially-conscious filmmakers, embracing diversity and championing local, Indigenous, minority and creative voices.

Topics explored include:

  • sustainability
  • Indigenous rights and stories
  • connection to Country
  • urban life
  • the awe of nature, flora and fauna
  • ecology
  • climate catastrophe
  • the interconnection between people and place.

We’ve been running since 2010, starting out as a weekend screening event in Palace Kino (as Environmental Film Festival Melbourne) and have since hosted festivals and events throughout Australia and online.

We know that money doesn't grow on trees, but a donation to EFFA will allow us to continue providing impactful, accessible, and sustainable programs for the community. EFFA runs solely on the support of generous donors, festival guests and festival partners. All donations will help EFFA to advance public understanding of environmental issues and challenge the way we interact and care for our planet and its inhabitants.

We pay our respects to Wurundjeri Elders, past and present, as well as to all Traditional Custodians across Australia. We recognise that our festival takes place on stolen lands and that sovereignty has never been ceded. There will be no climate justice without First Nations justice. Always was, always will be, Aboriginal land.
