Friends of the Hound Inc. is a not-for-profit, volunteer-based organisation dedicated to Greyhound welfare.
Greyhounds make great pets. They are friendly, placid, and low-maintenance dogs that thrive on human companionship and cosy comfort. They are well-suited to indoor life with people of all ages, including children and the elderly. The members and volunteers of Friends of the Hound work tirelessly to rescue Greyhounds and rehome them as family pets and companions.
Greyhounds need rescuing because around 20,000 are bred for racing every year in Australia. Of these, thousands upon thousands of young and healthy dogs are destroyed simply to keep the commercial racing and betting industry going. For greyhounds, it is... the quick, or the dead.
Friends of the Hound aims to dispel the misconceptions about the breed, educate and inform people about their suitability as pets, and raise awareness about their plight.
