A kind word or caring listener is often enough to make the difference - that's why Givlife exists: to bring people in the local community together, to support one another, irrespective of race, creed or religious belief. We have been operating since 2008 as a registered public beneficiary institute (PBI), with Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR) status.
How do we help? We connect with those who are isolated through our Tuesday night community barbeque, a ‘Soup Kitchen’ that is open to everyone, serving barbequed burgers and pasta meals. Our guests are provided with hygiene packs, as they need them and can browse through the ‘free op shop’ filled with clean clothes and shoes, towels and bedding to take what they need to keep warm and clean.
We support the families and students at the Queens Park Primary School with school stationery needs, uniforms on request and family hampers at Christmas time.
We run financial wellbeing programs and personal development programs to give participants a fresh approach to manage their financial and personal health. We are there when they need to call on us in times of extreme difficulty, suffering emergency health issues or the loss of a loved one.
When a 2-day old baby, born with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome, needed emergency surgery in Brisbane, we flew her grandmother over to support the mother and baby through this difficult time and helped them with food support.
We love to bring everyone together at Christmas time and each year have a party with Father Christmas and individually wrapped and personally labelled Christmas presents for over 100 children connected with Givlife. We distribute over 150 Christmas hampers to families in our community and Queens Park Primary School and other schools in the area.
