HCFA is a local Armidale charity that connects families of children under 6 with their community. "It takes a village to raise a child" and HCFA attempts to re-create the village & extended family that every family member benefits from. The only criteria is to have a child under 6.
Our trained volunteers visit families with young children in Armidale, Uralla & surrounds, to provide social support for 2 hours per week. They spend time with the children, allowing carers to take a break, or perhaps to catch up on housework or business at home. Our volunteers provide a non-critical ear, another adult to talk to & bounce ideas off.
An adult family member must remain at the same location as any children during visits, whether they be at home, at the park, the shops or perhaps the GP.
HCFA also produces & widely distributes the Armidale Families Guide. This publication provides families with information about facilities, services and resources specifically for families in the area. Many of the families we meet are new to the district & sometimes Australia. This booklet is an enduring resource that families can turn to often through the different stages of their families growth.
