"To foster an Irish spirit" is the aim of the INA. Donations from our community and the public are vital in supporting our cultural activities and events, such as language and dancing classes, performances and céilís at the Irish Cultural Centre and Gaelic Club and other locations in Sydney, as well as distinctive Irish sports such as Gaelic Football.
We also host the Irish Australian Song Library, a searchable database of recordings and sheet music of Irish songs, and an extensive library of Irish books.
We hold céilís (social Irish set dances) every couple of months, and also concerts of Irish music, singing and dancing.
Our popular Junior Fleadh is held on a Sunday every three months which teaches children to play Irish music together and some dance steps in a fun environment.
Fundraising also supports public events such as the Sydney Irish Film Festival, Bloomsday and Harp in the South Day, which celebrates the popular writings of Ruth Park.
In 1979 we revived the Sydney St Patrick's Day Parade, which continues to see Sydney 'go green' every 17 March and in which we continue to participate. We also maintain the 1798 Memorial at Waverley Cemetery, and continue to organise an Easter ceremony at the memorial to commemorate Irish people who have struggled for independence since the 1798 rebellion.
Your donation will contribute to our cultural fund and support these activities and more.
