JoCare aims to alleviate loneliness and isolation especially with older and vulnerable people in the Stonnington neighborhood. To achieve this, JoCare recruits and trains volunteers who are then matched up with a suitable older person to provide them with friendship, support and connection on a regular basis.
The service is available to people living at home or in Aged Care facilities in both the Stonnington area and the wider Southern Metro area. Referrals for visits by JoCare may come from a family member, from an aged care health residence manager, a health professional or community worker or even from the older person themselves.
As an Auspice of the Australian Government Initiative, Aged Care Volunteer Visitors Scheme, JoCare volunteers are able to visit people receiving aged care services through both residential and home care packages.
Due to the generosity of donations from individuals and from Cabrini Australia and other philanthropic organisations, JoCare volunteers are also able to visit people who are not receiving government funding for residential or home care support.
There are way too many lonely and isolated people living in our neighborhood. The demand for JoCare visits is growing strongly and so are the costs of providing the free service to residents. Your financial support will be gratefully received and, we assure you, will be used prudently. Donations of $2 or more are tax deductible.
