Why are we collecting funds?
1.7 billion children worldwide do not have access to surgical care. As a result of this there are many children around the world living with daily pain and suffering, experiencing disadvantage and discrimination. These children are the children you can support through Children First Foundation. Born with, or having acquired conditions, that need a surgery which is not readily available in their own countries, these children urgently need help to access the medical care they need.
Children First Foundation is an Australia based charity which facilitates life changing surgery and enables access to excellent medical care for disadvantaged children from developing countries. Surgeries improve the lives of, and increase opportunities for, the children CFF assist. By removing the barriers they face, such as access to education, employment and social acceptance the children are placed on the road to achieving long-term economic independence. In some cases, the surgery is lifesaving, in every case it is life changing.
How are the funds used?
Most of the children CFF support require such complex surgery that they need to travel to Australia. Pre and post-surgery they are expertly cared for 24/7 at the Foundation’s Retreat. Where possible surgical care is sourced pro-bono, but CFF still need to cover costs such as travel expenses, food and supplies, rehab and pre/post-surgical costs. It costs approximately $81 per child, per day to care for the children on the CFF program.
In some cases, the specialised care needed cannot be provided pro bono and CFF need funds to cover some, or all, of the costs for treatment. Just one night in ICU can cost thousands of dollars.
