OUR COMMUNITY-LED CAMPAIGN IS RAISING FUNDS TO ENGAGE LEGAL REPRESENTATION TO HELP US STOP THE PROPOSED 160 ACRE, COMMERCIAL DEVELOPMENT ON EDGECOMBE ROAD, KYNETON. THIS PROPOSAL IS DIRECTLY ADJACENT TO THE ENVIRONMENTALLY AND CULTURALLY SENSITIVE AREAS OF POST OFFICE CREEK
DONATIONS ARE TAX DEDUCTIBLE
Kyneton is a town located in the beautiful Macedon Ranges, well known for its high environmental value, Indigenous significance, fine wine and good food. The town itself has a quaint, untouched, country feel, however it is also located in a government-proposed growth area. We are fighting to protect what we know and love about this country and to keep inappropriate, big developments such as McDonalds/Service Station/KFC/Bunnings from establishing a foothold, right at our town’s gateway.
This development has been split into 3 separate planning applications which consists of
a) 24 hour Service Station with two fast food outlets and a truck stop.
b) A 160-acre subdivision proposing 18 rural living lots and more concerningly, 20+ commercial business lots
c) A Bunnings Warehouse
Post Office Creek runs directly through this area and continues on through the centre of Kyneton to become a tributary of the Campaspe river. It is an important waterway and needs to be protected against adverse environmental outcomes. Even with strong permit conditions, there is a risk in placing a petrol station and other commercial zoned businesses within an ecologically sensitive water catchment area such as this. It is important to arrest the decline of Post Office Creek and we believe the best way to achieve this is to keep the area in public ownership
We propose to maintain this area as a wildlife corridor providing environmental connections between Bald Hill Reserve and Black Hill Reserve. This development, as proposed will reduce this biolink and impact local wildlife biodiversity through loss of habitat and increased wildlife, traffic fatalities
This development facilitates placement of business operations which could discharge chemical pollutants, emit bright light and loud noise immediately next to a wildlife corridor and an important waterway.
Keep Kyneton Country is a community group that is concerned that we are losing our unique historic town to urban sprawl, car dependency and traffic congestion and that this development will ruin the gateway appeal at the entry to our town, thereby affecting tourism and our economy. We also have concerns that the commercial lots will create a new retail area, in contravention of our Shire’s land use planning controls, as set out in its Structure Plan and thereby undermining Kyneton’s town centre.
The Keep Kyneton Country Fundraising campaign has been set up to support the Kyneton community to engage legal representation and appropriate expert witnesses at the upcoming Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal hearings. These hearings span August 2021 until February 2022.
ALL DONATIONS ARE TAX DEDUCTIBLE and will be received through the Macedon Ranges Sustainability Group. Keep Kyneton Country is organised by the Sustainable Development Action Group within the Macedon Ranges Sustainability Group. The Macedon Ranges Sustainability Group is an incorporated not-for-profit organisation promoting sustainability and environmental measures in the Macedon Ranges.
