Why are we collecting funds? 
Kiwanis International and UNICEF Australia have a long, strong and productive relationship over many years. 

UNICEF Australia has launched a ‘Ukraine Emergency Appeal’ to raise funds to assist children and families.

Globally UNICEF reports that one month of war in Ukraine has led to the displacement of 4.3 million children – more than half of the country’s estimated 7.5 million child population. This includes more than 1.8 million children who have crossed into neighbouring countries as refugees and 2.5 million who are now internally displaced inside Ukraine.

UNICEF has offices and teams across Ukraine working with partners to reach the ongoing and urgent needs of children and families.

UNICEF is trucking safe water to conflict-affected areas and prepositioning nutrition, health care, hygiene, and emergency education supplies as close to schools as possible for families near the contact line.

The first batch of UNICEF humanitarian supplies arrived on 5 March 2022 in Lviv, western Ukraine, from UNICEF’s Global Supply and Logistics Hub in Copenhagen. It is part of a six-truck convoy containing an estimated 62 tonnes of supplies on its way to the war-ravaged country.

Funds are urgently needed to help UNICEF continue to send supplies and support on the ground as the crisis continues to evolve over the coming weeks and months. By supporting the appeal, Kiwanis International will help UNICEF teams to deliver humanitarian aid to the areas impacted by the conflict including safe water, health, sanitation and hygiene supplies, educational resources, warm clothing to protect against the harsh winter conditions, and psychosocial support services for children affected by conflict.
