At The Learning for Life Autism Centre we are passionate about helping children on the autism spectrum to learn. We deliver the highest standard of evidence-based intensive early intervention and school-based services across Victoria so that these young members of our community can develop their strengths, learn new skills and remain engaged as they transition through their early years, preschool, primary and secondary years and beyond to live a full life. And we fundraise to ensure that autistic children and students from vulnerable Victorian families and communities can have Fair Access to our services.
Your donation to The Learning for Life Autism Centre will support our core early intensive behavioural intervention service for young autistic pre-school children whose families are unable to meet the costs of their child’s one-to-one ABA-based therapy program. Programs can range from 15 hours per week and up to 40 hours of therapy per week depending on a child’s learning needs. Fair Access support may be short, medium or longer term depending on the impact of a family’s financial and social disadvantage on their child’s learning needs.
For example, a family may:
• have more than one child on the spectrum and struggle to meet the education needs of each child;
• be experiencing underemployment or unemployment because of the high level of needs of their family, or other circumstances;
• be raising their child as a single parent and/or without extended family in Australia;
• have unexpected family medical or mental health issues which require urgent or ongoing care;
• be facing a long waiting period for NDIS application or review outcomes.
Costs involved with providing Fair Access for these children include:
• Therapist training and wages to deliver the programs;
• Ongoing program supervision and regular program reviews with families;
• On-going parent training in ABA-based strategies and parent support programs such as Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT);
• Cognitive, adaptive behaviour and language skills assessment testing.
