Women from refugee and migrant backgrounds are one of the most marginalised and socially isolated groups in Australia. They face a number of barriers to becoming connected and contributing members of their communities, one of the most important being the ability to seek employment. Some of the barriers facing women from engaging in employment are:
Being unable to engage in employment and their communities can lead to a significant impact on their health and well-being, including: Increased social isolation and mental health issues, poor self-worth and confidence and lack of financial stability and independence.
What we do
Our training and development program is a unique vocational training program delivered to help these women engage in meaningful and supported pathways to employment in clothing manufacturing and the fashion industry.
As part of our wrap around support we offer our trainees help with understanding and navigating the Australian employment processes, transport assistance and partnering with other organisations to provide life coaching, mentoring and counselling.
How will the funds be used?
All donations will be used to fund our training, life coaching and work experience programs to help us provide extra support, as well as to purchase much needed equipment and materials.
$50 will cover transport costs for 1 week
$65 will cover 1 driving lesson
$100 will provide each student with a quality industry standard sewing starter pack
$200 will cover our workplace training support for an entire cohort for 1 week.
$400 will provide 6 weeks of a life coaching program that will help our ladies improve their emotional health and wellness and teach them skills to help them move past hurt, anxiety and frustrations, improve their relationships, reduce stress and more.
$500 will cover our technical training support costs for an entire cohort for 1 week.
