Mary Glowrey Heritage Limited (ABN 39 604 292 346) raises funds to preserve, protect and promote the Mary Glowrey Collection and the legacy of a truly remarkable Victorian woman, Dr Sr Mary Glowrey JMJ (1887-1957). 

The Collection of letters, historic images and memorabilia provides archival insight into the life and times of a gifted scholar from country Victoria who was a social activist and female medical practitioner in Melbourne until 1920, when she sailed to India to become the world's first nun-doctor missionary.  As a lone doctor, she became the driving force in a radically visionary plan to train local Indian women to be doctors, nurses and pharmacists to stem the tide of suffering.  In 1943 she founded the Catholic Health Association of India, which today auspices the care of about 21 million people annually.  She is only the second Australian on the official path to sainthood. 

Donations to Mary Glowrey Heritage over $2 are tax deductible.  Funds will be used to preserve, protect and display items from the Collection of local, national and international significance and to provide the public with information about the remarkable life and times of an Australian pioneer, particularly through the educational and interactive exhibits at the Mary Glowrey Museum at Level 2, 20 Brunswick Street, Fitzroy (on Australian Catholic University’s Fitzroy campus). 

How can you help?

Your donation will be used to:

• create and maintain interactive and audio-visual exhibits, and provide inspirational presentations and tours for visitors about the life and times of Mary Glowrey at the Mary Glowrey Museum

• preserve and restore unique and irreplaceable documents in the Mary Glowrey Collection

• research and publish letters and biographical information to promote public awareness of the life and legacy of Mary Glowrey.
