The valleys of the Molonglo River, Queanbeyan River, Burra Creek and Jerrabomberra Creek and their tributaries contain examples of natural temperate grasslands, grassy box-gum woodlands and lowland snow-gum woodlands and many of the endangered species that inhabit them. The pressures of urban expansion and climate change present a risk to the future viability of not just the vegetation communities but also the rural communities within the region.
How will the funds be used?
Funds raised will contribute to projects that aim to raise community appreciation and knowledge of environmental values, that protect and enhance the environment in the Molonglo and Queanbeyan River valleys, and that encourage sustainable land management practices.
Key Areas of Expenditure
Development and coordination of projects to protect and enhance native vegetation, manage pest plants and animals, maintain adequate groundcover and reduce erosion.
Develop the necessary skills in the local community to identify and manage environmental issues in their catchment.
Provide resources for the community to monitor water quality in the catchment through our Waterwatch program.
