Australian Aircraft Restoration Group T/A Moorabbin Air Museum
We are the largest volunteer based NFP aviation Museum in Australia with the most complete collection of Australian made aircraft & engines. In addition, some are the rarest surviving examples in the world, and our archive is one of the biggest in the Southern Hemisphere. This year marks the 60th anniversary of the founding of the group and we are undertaking our biggest project to date.
Our Museum is about to expand to double the size, and we need your support to help us raise the funds to not just restore the aircraft, but to also raise funds for the new building and create education resources and training programs. This will ensure everything is protected from the weather for the first time in the Museum's history, and allow us to develop the education programs, expand the community engagement with group tours and so much more. A huge factor in our growing popularity - and what sets us apart from most Museums around the world - is that we allow visitors to sit in around 12 cockpits, so they get the real, hands-on interactivity and understand what it feels like to be a pilot.
By giving to us, you are ensuring the ongoing preservation of the aircraft, but in addition to that, you will be helping us as we support youth in our community, whether it be through the Museum Youth Group - The Winjeels, The Australian Air League, or the local Air Scouts, all of whom are based at the Museum
As part of the youth engagement we also provide training and assistance for those seeking aviation related careers, such as a pilot, engineer or part fabricator. A number of younger people have gone on to successful careers with the RAAF, Boeing and major aircraft projects overseas.
Aircraft that are in the line to be restored include:
P-40 Kittyhawk (Oldest survivor in Australia and sole survivor of Battle of Darwin)
DAP Beaufort A9-13 (Oldest survivor in the world)
CA-17 Mustang (third oldest locally built version) CA-3 Wackett (Oldest Surviving)
CA-12 Boomerang (Oldest original frame surviving) DC-3, Dh Heron Prototype
