A gift that keeps on giving
The purpose of the Renewable Energy Fund is to
The Fund provides interest free loans to community groups and schools, which are payed back over time from the realised cost savings. The money will then be re-invested into new projects.
So donations to the fund keep on giving indefinitely or until the entire Shire will be powered by 100% renewable energy.
The first project is at the Woodend Primary School, which aims to install a 30kW solar power system, enough to cover half of their energy consumption and save thousands of dollars every year. Almost all of the energy produced will be used on site (behind the metre) instead of being fed into the grid. This means the savings will pay back the loan in 4-5 years time and then continue to reduce the energy bill for the lifetime of the system (a further 20 years).
The Macedon Ranges Shire has one of the highest uptakes of solar panels on private houses. But we hardly have any on community buildings. The great advantage of renewable energy projects like solar panels is that they not only reduce the amount of coal being burned but they also save a lot of money for the community groups which can be put to better use.
Please consider giving a regular donation, which will enable us to plan ahead. Please contact us at info@mrsg.org.au with any questions you might have.
