Muru Mittigar was established within the Penrith Lakes Scheme in December 1998 and was officially opened as a meeting place for sharing cultures in November 1999. Twenty years later Muru Mittigar has grown and is now established across multiple sites with the head office situated in the Penrith CBD.
Using an entirely self-financing ‘fee for service’ social procurement model, which utilises mainstream contracting revenue to deliver its services. Muru endeavours to work and engage with local Aboriginal communities wherever it conducts business under commercial enterprise arrangements with its partners/clients.
Muru Mittigar seeks to create a better understanding of Aboriginal culture in the wider community; create new jobs; develop workplace skills training and increase sustained employment opportunities for Indigenous Australians where the organisation operates on Darug land.
The organisation does this by expanding Aboriginal contracting and consulting services through procurement in market-driven services, providing authentic education and tourism products and programs and, investment in well-being and financial counselling services to the Aboriginal community.
We acknowledge the Darug people as the Traditional Custodians of the land on which we live and work. We acknowledge the Elders, both past and present.
