Who are we?

The Newcastle Youth Orchestra Inc. (NYO) is an incorporated association committed to bringing the joy of orchestral music to young musicians in the region and also to new and young audiences across the region.

We are excited to share important updates about Newcastle Youth Orchestra in 2025, which reflect our evolution and our renewed commitment to musical excellence and community inclusion. These changes are designed to provide the best possible orchestral experience for all young musicians in our region, while ensuring sustainability and accessibility.

Our Vision

Newcastle Youth Orchestra is embarking on an exciting new chapter, focusing on:

-          Expanding our regional presence across the Hunter

-          Strengthening cultural engagement and diversity

-          Breaking down barriers to participation

-          Building collaborative partnerships with other regional youth orchestras

-          Providing enhanced performance opportunities

Our two ensembles provide progressive pathways for young musicians, offering supportive environments where players can develop their skills and experience the joy of creating orchestral music together.

Newcastle Youth Sinfonia

The NYS welcomes young musicians usually from age 12 up to 18 at an early stage of their orchestral ensemble journey for players starting at AMEB Grade 3-4 level or equivalent, this ensemble provides a supportive and engaging environment where students develop essential ensemble skills, musical confidence, and friendships.

Newcastle Youth Orchestra

Our flagship ensemble, the NYO, brings together accomplished young musicians generally aged 16-25 who are performing at or above AMEB Grade 5-6 level (or equivalent).

Donations here contribute to, among other things, our cost of living support. In the current financial situation, not everyone can afford all the costs associated with making beautiful music, but you can help us provide support where it is needed most.
