Too many women are injured or killed by their current or former partner. Too many children witness violence in their homes. Access to free legal help and support helps women change their lives - so that they, and their children, can live free from fear and violence. Please help North Queensland Women’s Legal Service (NQWLS) provide this vital assistance to women in need.

What do we do?

NQWLS is a not for profit, specialist community legal service run by women, for women. We provide free legal help and support to women experiencing domestic violence, as well as assist in family law, child protection, sexual assault, human rights, discrimination and Victim Assist matters. In 2020-21 NQWLS provided over 15,000 services to women living in rural, regional and remote Queensland. 95% of the women we assisted were affected by domestic violence. Without our assistance, these women almost certainly would have been unable to obtain the legal help they required. 

What can you do?

Despite our best efforts, the demand for our Service is ever increasing and many vulnerable women remain unable to get the assistance they need due to our limited resources. No matter how large or small, a donation to NQWLS makes a difference to the lives of many women and children. NQWLS is a registered charity and all donations over $2 are tax deductible. Donations can be made either as a one-off payment, or set up to recur on a monthly basis and can also be made on behalf of a business. We appreciate any donation that you may be able to give.

How will my donation be used?

Your donation will help NQWLS provide free legal services to women, such as:

• Providing legal advice about their situation  and rights, their safety, the court process and referrals to other community services they may need;
• Assisting women to prepare their case and the documentation necessary for court proceedings;
• Advocating for vulnerable and disadvantaged women in the Federal Circuit Court, the Family Court and the Magistrates Court of Queensland;
• Providing access to free legal help for women living in isolated, rural or remote areas; and
• Presenting free, community legal education workshops and Respectful Relationships programs to schools, workplaces and other community groups.
