WHAT WE DO 
 
Have you seen the popular Netflix show "Unorthodox"? Pathways Melbourne is an Australian non-profit organisation that supports and empowers people from similar insular Orthodox Jewish communities who are questioning their lifestyle, practices and beliefs, no matter where they are on their journey. 
 
We are a growing group of compassionate volunteers (some with lived experience) who support Jewish people making positive life changes. We provide confidential caring support and connect like-minded Jewish people who may be going through similar journeys, so they don't feel as alone. 
 
Pathways Melbourne offers:

·      A confidential first contact point for those needing support 
·      A safe space to ask questions
·      A non-judgemental peer support network
·      Social and cultural events
·      Individual mentoring
·      Referrals to professional services – medical, food support, housing, legal, medical and mental heath 
·      Advice about accessing education, employment and more
·      Community education and advocacy  
 
Pathways' does not aim to sway anyone away from orthodoxy or religious affiliation, but rather to support individuals in their efforts to choose their own direction.
 
WHY WE’RE NEEDED 
 
People growing up or living in insular Orthodox Jewish communities may at some stage question the foundations of their beliefs, and consider adopting a lifestyle and values different to those of their family or community.  This can be a very challenging, lonely and risky process, affecting family/community cohesion, access to children and housing and financial security. People wanting to transition into a more secular lifestyle also often find it difficult access information, resources and advice to support them whilst they navigate a new and unfamiliar path.
Pathways Melbourne is the only support service of its kind in Australia.
