Celebrating 25 years!
What is PFLAG?
PFLAG are the Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays. We are a non-profit organisation in Western Australia providing a support system, education and advocacy for families and friends of people who are gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender or intersex (GLBTI)
PFLAG Perth was founded on 2nd December 1989 by June Smythe, John Pugh and Margaret Pugh. In the 25 years since our first meeting, we have become well loved, passionate group of parents and families who are fighting for equal rights for their loved ones.
How we help
SUPPORT: we hold bi-monthly support group where everyone is welcome to come along. You will find a confidential and warm environment where you can share your concerns and find comfort and reassurance. Our meetings are a wonderful opportunity for families, friends and GLBTI people to move through a time of change, learn to grow together and keep families together.
PHONE: a chance to talk and ask questions and for us to provide information about PFLAG Perth, our meetings and offer referrals to other organisations or professionals.
EDUCATION: through presentations at community expos, newspaper articles and radio interviews, we hope to change attitudes, dispel myths and misinformation about sexual and gender identity and create understanding, respect, equality and acceptance for people in the gay and lesbian community.
ADVOCACY: we get involved in many projects being run by local and state Government departments, such as the Equal Opportunities Commission project to stop bullying in school on the basis of sexual identity.
