The Group regularly lobbys to ensure the enviromental and agricultural integrity of the area. The group holds regular meetings, farm walks, field trips and guest speakers on a wide range of topics from weed control to seagrass in Westernport Bay.
Over many years the focus in the Poowong area has been on controlling weeds. The Group and individual members have written to government departments voicing concerns over the policy on weeds which is increasingly placing the burden back on the community rather than the old system where government was heavily involved.
The last year has seen the Group being involved in a project with SGLN in applying for funding for infill plantings in existing vegetation areas. We also participated in the Poowong 150th Anniversary celebrations in April with a Landcare display using the SGLN display trailer.
The Group aims to remain functioning, quietly active and relevant to the principles of the Landcare movement.
