Target: $6,000 per year to support three (3) students from NW, NE and SE of Tasmania
The Anglican Diocese have endorsed a proposal put forward by Anglican Aboriginal Relationship Working Group (AARWG), after consultation with Aboriginal elders, to support remote dwelling Aboriginal young people to study at TAFE when they live too distant for practical commuting. An accommodation support package of $2000.00 per year for a maximum of three years (whilst students are enrolled) to subsidise accommodation which will assist individuals who otherwise may not experience any tertiary education to become more employable with career possibilities. This initiate demonstrates our church’s commitment to reconciliation with Tasmanian Aboriginal Communities.
Parishes are invited to contribute to a fund to be administered by Anglican Health and Welfare to finance the program. The financial constraints that the Diocese is under preclude using the common purse for this purpose. The most positive aspect of being funded through parish giving is that the recipients and Aboriginal communities will be aware that people in churches have chosen to make this gift thus creating a more personal association between Church members and the Aboriginal communities they are amongst.
Eligible applicants will be identified by Aboriginal organisations in a way which shows no partiality.
