Thank you for considering by visiting! (Are you a philanthropist who loves history? :^)
The Kununurra Museum is a haven for visitors to the town and the archive built up by KHS since 1986 is an important community resource, having assisted many local WA-NT Aboriginal people when visiting the museum, who have benefited from research undertaken for KHS and shared that often shows their ancestors in documentation and in photographs, which brings amazement and joy.
We are pleased if you can "GiveNow" to further the work of the Kununurra Historical Society, as we continue creating online content and services and in actively collecting, documenting, digitising conserving and preserving the KHS archival and Kununurra Museum collections. These collections, which are growing by over 100 new archives every year, are of Local, Regional, State and National Significance, and this has been achieved by 'actively collecting'. We need to find the funding to continue the valuable work being done. KHS has been working hard for our local history since 1986, completely by a volunteer-driven effort.
Crowd-Sourced Genuine KHS Supporters
Despite our isolation (3,000+km from Perth and 800+km from Darwin), KHS is at the cutting edge of what archives and museums are doing online but memberships and entry fees are not enough to keep all running. There is a great need to crowd-source our own funding, by genuinely interested people, with the hope and aim for KHS to find potential donors like you. So if you are a part of this history, a past or present resident, or even if you have just visited and were impressed with the work being done at the Kununurra Museum, you can be part of it by supporting this work to continue. Thanks for reading - you you can also join as a member from our website.
WANTED! Philanthropic History Lovers (to Support future KHS Work :^)
If you donate...
If you can afford to assist your donation would be greatly appreciated (and is FULLY tax deductible in Australia as KHS is a DGR and a registered charity with the ATO and ACNC :^) and you will be assisting and part of efforts to continue supporting the important work being done by KHS to actively collect and preserve a local history research repository and keep the Kununurra Museum running and open to the public (Read Google Reviews of "Kununurra Museum" - Give us a 5 star ***** rating and review later :^)
GiveNow from this funding page to ensure the continuation of the important work that has been done by KHS for the past, present and future residents and visitors to the town of Kununurra and in making our collections accessible to all from anywhere on the planet.
How will the funds be used?
The funds will be used to provide new equipment, PC and storage upgrades - terrabytes and terrabytes of hard drives (HDD SSD?) needed to back up and maintain the digital archive, which do and have failed, even expensive shock-resistant drives we thought were safe. One 5TB hard drive failure costing $2,000 to recover the video data (if they can) will deplete our accounts and some data may be lost. We have not used Cloud Storage as it all comes at a cost, especially if you have 15 terrabytes of information. New scanner, lighting equipment are needed. Archive-safe boxes and materials are also desperately needed to upgrade existing. As well as for carrying out extra work required by the Society, to pay for cleaning and other work that needs to be done for the long term preservation of the archive and museum collections, and to ensure the continuation of an active collection policy.
Key areas of expenditure
Establishment of a useful funding-pool to ensure that in future, funds will be available for the continuation of the important work of actively collecting, conserving, preserving and digitising KHS collections and running the Kununurra Museum. Equipment PC/scanner Upgrades (35%) Archival Materials (25%) Archive Work Costs (15%) Storage - Hard Drives/Cloud? (25%) See the Pie-Chart diagram at end, below.
We hope from what you have seen of our online presence to date, that you believe KHS to be a worthy cause and know that you would be part of assisting this great work to continue and increase. We encourage you to sign up to GiveNow from where you can keep track of all of your donations, (and we get to know you have donated and thank you in advance! - TIA! :^)
