Saving Bonnie.................
Piglet: “How do you spell love”
Pooh: “You don’t spell it. You feel it.”
The love between people and their pets - it's unbreakable - but in times of crisis - it can be rocked to the core.
Life has given Louise a few lemons and then some! Unable to work due to severe physical injuries caused by domestic violence, decades of multiple traumas has led to PTSD, severe anxiety, agoraphobia and financial hardship.
Louise is a survivor, her lifeline - the most divine wiggly smiley staffy x - meet Bonnie.
So attached are these two, Louise tells us, “when Bonnie goes, I go.”
PTSD doesn’t discriminate. Half of our clients are on a disability pension, over 95% suffering with mental health issues. Every single one of our clients tell us their beloved furry companions make their life so much better, reducing their stress and anxiety. And for many, like Louise, the only reason they get up every day.
Bonnie is 9, but this gentle soul has a few medical issues of her own. Diagnosed last year with Cushing’s disease, Louise has struggled to fund Bonnie’s treatment. Seeking the help of 2 vets, Louise is devastated to learn that her best friend likely won’t survive for long without the right medication. With anxiety peaking, panic attacks a daily occurrence, Louise has contacted us desperate for help.
Bonnie needs special medication which costs approx $200 per month. This medication is ongoing, and the only chance of Bonnie surviving. In addition to the medication, the initial Cushing’s tests which ensure all the medications are at the right dosage and working well, cost $500.
There is no question Bonnie is loved to the moon and back, but again, it’s money that threatens the bond and the life of two special souls.
We are here to support those doing it tough, to save lives, change lives and above all else, to keep best friends together.
Our big wish is to raise enough funds for a year's worth of medication to give Louise a break, and Bonnie the best chance of surviving as long as possible with this disease.
