We are seeking ten founding members to join forces as the Theatre Works She Writes Giving Circle to raise $20,000 towards our She Writes Program (10 x $2,000, completely tax deductible).
Since 2020, Theatre Works has facilitated the ground-breaking program dedicated to emerging female, female-identifying and non-binary playwrights. We cannot sustain the necessary length of the program (dictated by how long it takes to develop a new play) and help writers develop new stories - without the generous support from private donors.
Throughout the initiative Theatre Works and our in-house literary manager support writers in the development of their play through skill building workshops, industry pathway meet ’n greets, mentoring, script readings, creative developments and the two week Radical Acts playwriting festival where writers hear their work presented in front of a live audience by professional actors.
During the program the playwrights, of various genres, are matched with a VCA Masters of Dramaturgy graduate to help foster the creative vision and continued development of each play. Theatre Works then guide the writers in developing relationships with other theatres across the sector, helping each play find it’s audience.
This program provides one of the few opportunities in Australia for playwrights to acquire the skills, dramaturgical support, pathways and contacts for a career as a writer in the professional theatre industry. Programs of this size and scope are rare in the Australian landscape today.
Thank you for considering joining the She Writes Giving Circle.
