WE NEED YOUR HELP TO PRESERVE AND MAINTAIN THE HISTORIC ST JOHN'S PRECINCT FOR FUTURE GENERATIONS
St John’s Anglican Church, consecrated in 1845, dates back to the earliest days of European settlement. Its historic precinct is an oasis of quiet and beauty in the heart of our Nation's capital.
For over 175 years St John’s parishioners and others have had the privilege of preserving the fabric and furnishings of the heritage church. Since its listing on the ACT Heritage Register in 2004 significant work has been undertaken on the foundations, water management, stained glass windows, lighting, replacing crumbling stonework and general maintenance.
We invite donors who have benefited from the foresight and selfless dedication of others to continue the conservation of the church and its precinct, which includes the churchyard, schoolhouse and landscape. This will enable it to remain a vibrant and active centre for worship and community and will allow future generations to engage with Canberra’s continuing history.
