Building on the momentum of the global movement, the National Climate Emergency Summit will help to define and align key action that supports the emergency-scale transition in the Australian context. The Summit will address the pressing need to consolidate coordinated and cooperative approaches to form climate emergency responses – inviting communities, practitioners and businesses to challenge and assist governments to respond.
The Summit will bring together practitioners, local governments, climate scientists, community organisations, industry innovators, youth leaders, climate action groups, and advocates to unpack how to achieve a climate emergency transition at local, state and national levels. Through a focused conference program of plenary and breakout sessions, the Summit will examine the roles of government, the private sector, civil society and activism in carrying out a rapid, society-wide just transition for a safe climate. Summit speakers and delegates will look at how they can advance the current groundswell of climate emergency declarations while forming transferable transition strategies for action beyond the declarations. The Summit sessions will present leading-edge workshops, panel discussions, and debates that tackle critical climate issues spanning the political, economic, technical, and social change dimensions of a full-scale response to the climate emergency.
This is an opportunity to catalyse social, economic and policy breakthroughs that will shape the kind of response we want to see in Australia and around the world.
