On 31 May 2019 Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras lodged their bid for Sydney to host WorldPride in 2023.

If successful, this will be the first time WorldPride will be held in the Southern Hemisphere. and will shine a spotlight on Mardi Gras and Sydney and our global role in enhancing visibility, equality and security for our communities in this region. Now more than ever it is important that we continue to stand for the rights of our communities when so many of those ‘hard won’ rights are being eroded not just here but even more extremely across the Asia Pacific.

The final bid presentations and voting will be held in Athens this month. Despite funding from both the NSW State government, Tourism Australia, sponsors and from our own resources, the adversity of distance makes our bid more expensive and time consuming than our competitor cities in Montreal and Houston.

We urgently need to raise funds to ensure that we are putting our best team in Athens.
