Theatre Kimberley's vision is one of thriving, creative, connected Kimberley communities.
We exist to support this by creating high-quality arts opportunities that connect local people with artists and bring Kimberley stories to life.
Our innovative programs and productions contribute to culture, creativity, growth and wellbeing.
The isolated Kimberley region of Western Australia covers a land mass of over 400,000 sq km and almost half of its residents live in a remote area with very long distances between towns.
Aboriginal people make up half the Kimberley's estimated resident population of 36,000 who live in approximately 160 Aboriginal communities. The Aboriginal population is younger than the state average, with 43% under 20 years old.
Theatre Kimberley's outreach program offers arts opportunities, skill development and training to remote communities, which builds self-esteem and community cohesion and well being.
Many of the remote communities we partner with can only afford access to these programs if they are subsidised. Our outreach program is in high demand and we would like to be able to visit and revisit as many remote communities as are interested.
Theatre Kimberley is excellently placed to provide arts programs and opportunities to regional and remote Indigenous youth and communities.
