About this cause

“I moved into housing with nothing—not even a bed. The Bower helped me make it a home. I now have a job, shared custody of my daughter, and a place I can call mine.” – Serena, House to Home beneficiary

Donate today to the Bower’s From House to Home program to help turn an empty house into a real home for someone in desperate need.

Every dollar you can donate will help us get closer to our target of $55,315 so we can increase our truck deliveries and collections from two to three days every week.  This extra day will help an extra 115 families over the next 12 months move from crisis to hope, and from a house into a real, safe, comfortable home.

Sydney is facing a hidden crisis. While we celebrate placing 9,000 vulnerable families into social housing each year, we don't talk about what happens next.

These families - refugees, domestic violence survivors, youth aging out of care, and others escaping crisis - move into empty shells.

No bed, no fridge, no table for their children to do homework.

At the same time, Sydney sends 300,000 tonnes of reusable furniture to landfill annually. We have massive waste and massive need, existing side by side.

The Bower has worked for 25 years at the intersection of these problems. This year, we've furnished 75 homes  - from beds to washing machines - for people emerging from crisis.

Your gift —large or small—is tax-deductible and life-changing.

Our infrastructure works. Our model works. But 75 homes against 9,000 in need isn't enough.

The problem isn't furniture - it's systems. Charity shops don't handle whitegoods. They can't test electrical safety. They don't deliver and install. They won't enter public housing complexes.

When families can't get basics, 40% abandon their housing within six months. They return to couches, cars, or the street. Each return to homelessness costs taxpayers $40,000 annually. But the damage to our social fabric is equally costly.

Now we've hit a ceiling. Our two-day truck schedule means choosing between collecting donations and delivering to families. Our cramped storage limits us to 6 washers when demand is for 60.

We want to double our impact in the next 12 months.

We aim to raise $55,315 to fund our truck collections and deliveries for an extra day each week, increasing our current deliver schedule from two to three days each week..

Every $484 raised will help us support one more family move from house to home, and from crisis to hope.

Hitting our fundraising target of $55.315 will mean we can help an extra 115 families every 12 months

Every single donation, no matter how small or how large will make a difference bridging the gap.

Donate now and help someone turn a roof over their head into a place they can call home.
"We’re so grateful for the furniture from the Bower and those in the community who support this program”   Anna, House to Home beneficiary

This financial year, we helped 75 households transform empty spaces into real homes—safe, functional, and welcoming.

In the next 12 months, with your help, we aim to double that impact.

Make a tax deductible donation now to make that aim a reality.

“The House to Home program is particularly impactful for our clients who are transitioning from homelessness to social housing… The House to Home program greatly assists other groups of people, including those who are escaping domestic and/or family violence, recently arrived as refugees or asylum seekers, and living in financial hardship and unable to afford essential household goods.”  - Hannah Yeo, Services Manager, Neami National
